These efforts are rooted in a lifelong reverence for nature, shaped deeply by personal experience. Over the years, wilderness became more than inspiration; it was my refuge, offering peace, healing, and a profound sense of belonging that I found nowhere else. The mountains, forests, and oceans provided clarity, purpose, and taught me the interconnectedness of all life.
Through Gathered Light, I hope to pass on that same sense of wonder, respect, and responsibility to others.

Beneath the Surface: Exploring Breath, Body, and the Wild Within is an invitation to explore the deep, both beneath the ocean’s surface and within the self. Woven through personal narrative, thematic elements, fine art photography, and interactive reflection, this book offers a meditative and immersive journey into breath, healing, presence, and belonging.
Rooted in a life shaped by wilderness, born on a remote Alaskan island, raised in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, and drawn to the sea as sanctuary, this story unfolds through moments of movement and stillness, ascent and descent, clarity and transformation. When physical limitation altered my lifelong relationship with the natural world, I was called to rediscover connection in new ways, asking what it truly means to belong when identity can no longer be defined by action.
This is not a book solely about freediving. It is about survival, in all its forms. It explores the relationship between body and breath, the wisdom of water and wild places, and the reverence we carry, or forget to carry, for the living world around us. Through chapters grounded in creative elements like Mystery, Stillness, Gravity, Belonging, Light, and Transition, readers are invited into a layered experience that blends personal storytelling with creative reflection and embodied awareness.
Each section is paired with writing prompts, breath-based meditations, and photographic exercises designed to help readers deepen their own connection to nature, to creativity, and to the quiet landscapes within. The accompanying imagery serves not only as visual accompaniment, but as a form of presence and witnessing—an invitation to slow down, observe, and remember what matters.
Beneath the Surface asks what it means to exist in the space between inhale and exhale, between control and surrender, between the edge of the world and the center of the self. It is a book for anyone who has felt reverence in wild places, who seeks healing in stillness, or who wonders how the act of seeing, through a lens or through breath, might bring them home.
